How long should a cold sore usually last and are there any pills to help get rid of it ?

so from researching i found a pill called lysine in which helps to prevent the spreading but should i take a antibiotic pill or another as well i cant stand cold sores and sometimes i have them last like a whole week i have one now and its irritating the h e double hockey sticks outa me
